About Us

The Hen Home is a website that was built by Stuart Wyeth and his family.

We enjoy owning chickens so much that we wanted to share our design with everyone else who are also interested in keeping chickens. We own 3 Bantam chickens and between them they deliver around 15 eggs a week.

Our chickens are so happy in their Hen Home that we wanted to share our knowledge on what we learnt from keeping chickens and share the benefits of a good, well thought out design that every family can enjoy.

We wanted the self build Hen Home to be fun and simple so that anyone could enjoy making it. We also wanted a design that gave the back garden a wow factor and that stood out as a piece of furniture instead of a boring box style house, made out of odd pieces of wood that you can buy on the internet for a reasonable price. At the other end of the market was nice quality designs but at such an expensive cost that we just couldn't justify.

If the words 'eco-friendly' and 'organic' appeal to you, then chickens would be ideal for you. There is no better way to describe what it is like keeping chickens.
